Three surprising truths about introverts that most extroverts just don't understand: 👇🏾
1️⃣ Cancelled plans are literally our love language. Every introvert knows the sheer joy of agreeing to a social event, regretting it the day of, and then getting a last-minute text saying it's cancelled. You have never seen joy like an introvert who suddenly finds out she does not have to go anywhere!
2️⃣ Volunteering to do the dishes is a brilliant survival strategy. If you see an introvert eagerly cleaning up after a dinner party, we aren't just being the ultimate polite guest; we are executing an escape plan. Small talk in cramped spaces drains our batteries fast, and offering to wash the dishes guarantees a socially acceptable exit strategy. Nobody rushes into the kitchen to join us in doing chores, which means we get to retreat, enjoy some beautiful, blissful solitude, and still look like a hero.
3️⃣ Our "shell" isn't a prison we need to be rescued from. People are constantly telling introverts to "come out of your shell," as if it's a bad place to be. But we aren't trapped in there! Our shell is a sanctuary filled with our deep thoughts, inspiration, and peace. We don't want to get out more, and we don't need to be "fixed". We love our inner world!
And here's a bonus: living as an introvert while navigating an extroverted world takes a massive energetic toll. We don't hate connection. We just hate the exhaustion of performing.
